Today I launched my mother's new store - My Dona Design www.mydonadesign.com. She makes cute pins and necklaces using your own photo. Check it out.

Last night I checked back on this silly web site where I posted a video of Playa, to see if there were any views or comments, and found that she made the front page!! The site is a community of pet owners who post videos. Strangely, the site's name is a bit of a misnomer. There are no pet cams to be found - just videos that people submit. Kinda strange, but what the heck - Playa's on the front page!! Her ever-popular video "Carpet Surfing" has been seen 396 times to date.

Today i made some noise with the computer and keyboard while carolyn was out running errands. Playa was on my lap at one point and started sniffing the keyboard. Then she stood up and started to beast out on the keys!

we were thinking about moving to LA, but Carolyn decided that we need to stay because this clown announced he is playing Central Park this summer. LA friends, register your outrage in the Comments section below this post.

I think I've really fallen off the deep end this time. I've set up a web cam server on my other computer. It has 2 usb web cams in addition to the Playa cam. Now I can really find out what she's doing.
There are just so many options included in this little program, it's making my head spin. Some of the features are scheduling for the web cams, image overlays, easy embedding in my own web pages, seriously sophisticated motion detection, audio detection and even feedback (e.g. play a file telling Playa to shut up if she starts barking), image uploading with FTP, email alerts...oh, so many fun ways to waste time figuring out what I already know - that my dog sleeps all day.
Check it out: http://playapapaya.dlinkddns.com:8080/multi.html (Update: if the page isn't found, the server's down. I am only leaving it up during the day. Check the link at left for my normal web cam that's on all the time)

The pope was in town this weekend, and His Holiness was clogging up traffic on the East side of the park. Thankfully we live on the West side, and we avoided the madness as we enjoyed a stroll in the park on our way to meet up with our friends Jonathan and Tanya.
Together, we crossed a long-standing item off our NY to do list - rowing boats on the pond. What a relaxing way to spend a couple of hours!! It felt like the first real summer day this year. Afterward, we had some lunch on the patio outside our old haunt, the Firehouse.
Bronwyn and David came over for dinner and a movie. A strange movie. I'd never seen 2001: A Space Odyssey. Wow - what an incredible technical achievement for 1968. The ending was so absolutely insane though. Were we supposed to drop acid during the intermission or something??

I just finished a book called Blackwater. It's about one of the largest private security contractors. Written as a bit of an expose, I'm not sure what to make of it overall. He makes a pretty good case, though, that the move toward privitization leads us down a dangerous path, where conflicts are no longer limited by public support or enrollment in a volunteer army, but only by dollars.

We brought Playa to her first baseball game last night at Shea. Take a look at the little page I made about it.

Folks, I am very happy to report that I learned today that I do not have Celiac Disease. For those of you who have not been around me in the past 6 months, I have been living gluten-free due to the discovery of a food allergy to wheat. After enjoying the most...uhhh...regular period of my adult life, I decided that I should be tested for CD. I am so relieved to learn that I just have a mild allergy, and not the disease that would require me to go strictly gluten-free for life! Oh man, it makes me want to eat some cake. Maybe I will.
In other news, I bought some Linux hosting a couple days ago, and I'm toying around with an open source CMS called Joomla! on one of my domains - www.trickmo.com. Most of the sample data is still there, so don't expect anything too exciting if you click on over, until I have a few days to play around. I'm removing the test data as I familiarize myself with the layouts. Pretty fun stuff - uses LAMP. The blog you are reading now, in case you are wondering (or bored enough to read on), lives on the opposite end of the web spectrum. Hosted on IIS (Windows) it is powered by ASP.NET 2.0 and uses an instance of SQL Server 2000. There's a little open source here too - this portal uses a framework called DotNetNuke.
